MIME -- Multipurpose Internet Mail Extension

MIME est un standart Internet pour l'identification des différents types de formats de fichiers que vous êtes amener à rencontrer sur le réseau.
Lorsque que votre navigateur télécharge un fichier, le serveur, s'il est correctement configuré, transmet son type MIME. Avec cette information, votre navigateur peut, s'il est compatible avec le type MIME renvoyé, traiter le fichier en interne. Dans la négative, il vérifie s'il possède un plugin adapté et en confie le traitement. En dernier recours, il fait appel à une application externe.
Pour votre plus grand confort, je vous recommande de configurer convenablement votre browser pour qu'il fasse appel au programme le plus apte à traiter tels ou tels types de fichier.
